Disconnected Lines



PROBLEM BellSouth failed to remove the "hunting" features associated with disconnected phone lines.
OVERVIEW "Hunting," also referred to as "rollover," allows calls to move within a group of lines so that customers and users receive fewer busy signals. Hunting can be sequential or random. Sequential hunting starts with the number dialed and moves in ascending or descending numerical order throughout the remaining lines until it reaches the last line in the group. It then returns to the first line in the group. Random hunting starts with the number dialed and moves to the next available line, regardless of sequence.
SAVINGS Invoice Insight initiated a dispute with BellSouth, which resulted in an immediate credit of $675 and an ongoing monthly savings of $50 plus taxes.

Actual telecom invoice cost reduction example - Although only one phone line was operating, five hunting features were being billed.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Initially, this client's account had five telephone lines. After installing a new phone system, the client cancelled all but one of the old lines. Naturally, the client assumed the features associated with the disconnected lines would be disconnected as well.
